Just 4 weeks after our Southern Rivers event at Waveney River Centre, we held our Northern Rivers event at Salhouse Broad.

Our booking this year coincided with a meeting of the Freeman Owners club so mooring space was at a premium for anyone else! This year we occupied "Mooring 1" and arrived to find our reserved spaces clearly labelled, and ready and waiting for us.

13 boats from all corners of the Northern Broads attended this years event converging on Salhouse from Coltishall, Stalham, Potter Heigham, Acle, Ranworth, with just one crew (Geoff and Judi on Moonshine) making the crossing from the South (from Geldestone) this year.

Once again, we had managed to pick a good weekend with fine mainly sunny weather, which was also a (welcome) few degrees cooler than at our previous event in June. However, once landed, the gazebo was pressed into service once again, just in case of an odd shower....

In all, 13 boats and 14 crews took part in this years event including new owners and members John, April and Rosie arriving on "Cheshire Cat", and Elaine and Bob ("Minnow") attending by car.

The Salhouse meet was also an opportunity to welcome back our original club founders, Brian and Jan to boating after a short shore break and gap in regular cruising. The Salhouse event was the first major outing on board their new acquisition.

Brian and Jan have upgraded to an Alpha 34 (Maytime Sapphire) due to the need for some extra crew to assist with mooring etc but it's a great pleasure to have them back at Safari events as before. I hope we are (all) able to participate in boating and cruising until we reach a similar range of age and experience!

The weekend meet passed by all too quickly in the by now usual format of getting together for a chat, catching up on the latest additions, completed and planned projects, trips and many other interesting topics of the day.

The general chat and banter lasted well into the evening helped by a few beers, wines and high spirits, accompanied by music and copious woodsmoke from the Salhouse campsite barbeque...

As Saturday evening turned towards Saturday night we were treated to a fine Norfolk Sunset. Some photographic examples are displayed here.

Any additional photos from other members/attendees  are always welcome....don't be shy with submissions! If unsure please contact me for details of how to submit them via dropbox or other app.

On Sunday, following a leisurely awakening and breakfast as some crews departed early, we witnessed some hasty and ill judged mooring maneuvres as various boats tried to fill up the gaps in our lines.

Eventually this activity culminated with a hire boat in collision with Maytime Sapphire with some minor damage resulting. A second near miss on the other side by another boat prompted us to judge it time to leave and an informal CIC up to Wroxham Broad and back, was proposed and swiftly put into action...

As Sunday was a sailing day on the broad with a lot of racing activity already in progress on the day, the CIC was curtailed  and after turning around back towards Salhouse various boats went their separate ways.

That was it for 2017 .....hopefully back again for more fun in 2018....
