The 2021 Salhouse Meet
Events > 2021 Events
Our planned 2020 double anniversary (Hampton Safari Boats and Hampton Safari Club) meet postponed due to Covid-19 was held this year (2021) and attended by 23 boats and crews. It was the second largest turnout of boats and crews in our 10 year club history, and the 22 Safari's lined up along No2 Moorings at Salhouse was very impressive from both land and water. We were also able to "sign up" and welcome Lynne and Bob on Timeless, relatively new owners who were visiting the meet on an ad-hoc basis out of interest - there's no getting away! We were also visited by Colin and
Stars of the show had to be the return of Brian and Jan (the original founders of the new Hampton Safari Boat Club back in 2010). They were stars of the show not only as the founder members, but also for returning to the anniversary celebration as "new" owners of their re-aquired "old" Hampton Safari, "Maytime Safari"....... (How that came about is another story...).
Among the 22 Safari's gathered together, we had at least one of each variant present including the highly original and immaculate Safari Mk4 - Wild Thyme - one of only three Mk4's ever made and still in it's well maintained original gel coat. The 22 Safari's gathered also provided an interesting exhibition of the many and varied layout themes, modifications, add-ons, builds and finishes that have developed over 50 years! It also helped to illustrate why sometimes an innocent technical query results in several different answers!
Some special thanks are in order to our "star bakers" - Trish (2 x Jam Sponge cakes), Liz (Millionaires Shortbread), Annette (Norfolk Shortbread) and Moyra (Cookies) - all cakes and cookies were rapidly consumed and very much appreciated!!
Our thanks also to everyone (notably Liz, Elaine and Miranda) who provided photo's and snapshots of the days activities and the early morning view which some of us (myself included) missed!!
And finally, thanks to everyone who attended (with or without a Safari) and for making these meets so enjoyable. It's great to see everyone getting together and sharing experiences, whilst making new acquaintances and friendships at these events...

Our track record of picking a dry sunny day for our events held out once again, allowing for plenty of "facetime" chats, boat visits, banter and meeting old and new friends alike. The general consensus and feedback of the "best event yet" was tempered by the disappointing news that Salhouse Management may not be allowing group or invidual mooring bookings in future. This doesn't mean the end of our events but does make them trickier to organise and coordinate. So if this was the last bookable Salhouse Meet then it was a very enjoyable event to end on!
On a brighter note - Look out for news/announcements on next year's meet up events on the website sometime around January/February. Given the pressure on moorings we may well go for a midweek off peak timings again, based on the turnout achieved this year. We hope to run a Southern Broads event next year (probably at Beccles sometime around late June, when the evenings are longest and weather is generally more settled) - our Northern event may be a little trickier to forecast/arrange but we'll do our best...
Enjoy the rest of the 2021 season and don't forget a club burgee is not just for Xmas....but it might make a nice present
